The Citroen GS is a small family car that Citroen of France made and sold from 1970 to 1986 in two series: the GS from 1970 to 1979 as a fastback saloon and estate, and the revised GSA from late 1979 as a hatchback or estate. Roughly 2.5 million were produced. It was noted for its aerodynamic shape, with a drag coefficient of 0.318, fully independent hydropneumatic brakes, self-levelling suspension and an air-cooled flat-four engine, in a body styled by Robert Opron. It filled the gap between the 2CV and Ami and the DS, was named European Car of the Year for 1971, and was the best-selling Citroen for many years, though it was never officially imported to the United States.
