The Citroen Ami is an economy family car that Citroen of France made and sold from 1961 to 1978 in two generations, the Ami 6 with its reverse-raked notchback rear window and the later Ami 8 fastback. Essentially a rebodied 2CV with a larger air-cooled 602 cc flat-twin engine to carry the extra weight, it kept the older car's all-round independent suspension and front-wheel drive, and came as a saloon and as an estate. It was among the first cars fitted with rectangular headlights, a feature developed with the lamp maker Cibie. The Ami name is the French word for friend, and over 1.8 million were manufactured; the Citroen Visa and Axel replaced it and the Dyane.
