The Chrysler Sunbeam was a supermini that Chrysler Europe built at the former Rootes Group factory in Linwood, Scotland, from 1977 to 1981. It was launched on 23 July 1977 after a development period of only 19 months, to a positive reception from the British motoring press, and was offered only as a three-door hatchback. The Ti version had a 1.6 litre engine with twin Weber carburettors giving 100 horsepower. After PSA took over Chrysler's European operations the car became the Talbot Sunbeam, and the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus won the 1981 World Rally Championship manufacturers' title for Talbot. Rootes products had been sold in export markets under the Sunbeam name, and the brand was retired in 1976.
