The Chrysler Centura was a mid-size car built by Chrysler Australia between 1975 and 1978, with 19,770 made. It was based on the Chrysler 180 of Chrysler Europe but could also be ordered with the larger Australian-made Hemi Six engines, the fours giving 122 horsepower and the sixes 142 or 167. It competed with the larger Holden and Ford Falcon cars and sat below the Valiant and its Charger coupe, while Chrysler Australia, starved of funds by its American parent, left the Valiant sedans on old platforms. Its weight over the rear wheels was light, so wet-weather traction was poor.
