The third generation Suburban was based on the Chevrolet Advance Design series of pickups. It had a split front bench seat, with a sliding passenger side seat for access to the two rear rows, and was the last series to feature canopy express models. From 1954 the Hydra-Matic four speed automatic was available in the Chevrolet Suburban, as it had been in GMC models since 1953. Its design later inspired the Chevrolet HHR. Its model years run from 1947 to 1954.
