The Cessna T-37 Tweet, designated Model 318 by Cessna, is a small, economical twin-engine jet trainer that served for decades as the primary trainer of the United States Air Force and of several other air forces. Cessna was one of eight manufacturers to answer the Trainer Experimental request of early 1952, offering a twin-jet design with side-by-side seating that the Air Force liked because instructor and student could interact closely. The prototype XT-37 first flew on 12 October 1954, and the Air Force received its first production T-37A in June 1956. The T-37B had uprated J69 engines and better avionics, and 1,269 T-37s of all versions were built before production ended in 1975. The Air Force withdrew its last T-37 in 2009, replacing it with the Beechcraft T-6 Texan II. An armed T-37C and the A-37 Dragonfly attack aircraft were developed from it.
