BYD Song Max

Automobiles

The BYD Song Max is a compact multi purpose vehicle developed by BYD since 2017. BYD previewed it in April 2017 and launched it in China in September 2017 with a single engine, a 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol unit making 156 horsepower. The Song Max DM plug-in hybrid appeared at the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show with a 118 kilowatt engine and a 110 kilowatt electric motor, and a Song Max EV followed in limited numbers in Beijing from October 2019. A facelift for the 2021 model year added a 12.8 inch screen and six- and seven-seat layouts, and BYD ended petrol production in March 2022, replacing it with the plug-in hybrid Song Max DM-i, which combines a 1.5 litre engine with a permanent magnet motor for 145 kilowatts. The second generation BYD e6 is a battery electric fleet car heavily based on the Song Max, and a more upscale version of it has been sold since 2024 as the BYD M6 or eMax 7.
