BYD Mako

Automobiles

The BYD Mako is a plug-in hybrid compact pickup truck made by the Chinese manufacturer BYD Auto. It debuted in Brazil in August 2026 as BYD second light utility vehicle after the larger Shark 6, and like the Shark takes its name from a shark. It was built for global rather than domestic markets, using the existing design of the Song Pro, including the trapezoidal front air intake, front doors and a 15.6 inch touchscreen cabin, and comes only with a second row of seats and an open cargo area. A payload of about 750 kilograms is planned. Its plug-in combustion-electric drivetrain pairs a naturally aspirated 1.5 litre petrol engine of 98 horsepower with an electric motor for 223 horsepower and 400 newton metres combined, and the 12.9 kilowatt-hour battery allows pure electric running. Sales began in Brazil in September 2026, using imports before local production in 2027.
