BYD D1

Automobiles

The BYD D1 is a compact battery-electric multi-purpose vehicle that BYD developed with the ride-hailing company DiDi specifically for ride-hailing fleets. It grew out of an alliance DiDi formed in 2018 with several automakers and was the first purpose-built model to come from it. Chinese regulators approved it in August 2020 and it was revealed in Beijing on 16 November 2020, with initial sales limited to drivers registered on the DiDi platform. A 100 kW electric motor and a 70 kWh cobalt-free lithium iron phosphate battery power it to a top speed of 130 km/h, and a right-side sliding door lets passengers exit without endangering cyclists or pedestrians. Mexican operator Vemo ordered a fleet of 1,000 in 2022.
