The Bugatti 16C Galibier is a luxury five-door fastback concept car that Bugatti Automobiles unveiled at its Molsheim assembly salon in France on 12 September 2009 and showed to the public at the Frankfurt Auto Show that year. It was to be driven by a front-mounted 8.0 litre twin-supercharged W16 engine derived from the quad-turbocharged unit of the Veyron, sending power through permanent all-wheel drive, and a hybrid powertrain was also considered. The name recalls the Type 57 Galibier and the French mountain pass, and the 16 refers to the number of cylinders. A production car, expected to be called the Royale, was repeatedly postponed, and in September 2013 Bugatti announced that it was pulling out of the project in favour of the Veyron successor, the Chiron.
