British Rail Class 47

The British Rail Class 47 is a diesel electric locomotive built between 1962 and 1968 by Brush Traction with engines supplied by Sulzer, produced in greater numbers than any other British mainline diesel locomotive class of its era. Its versatility let it work express passenger trains, secondary passenger services and heavy freight alike across the whole of the British Rail network, and examples remained in main line service for decades, making the Class 47 one of the most familiar British locomotives of the second half of the twentieth century.
