British Rail Class 08

The British Rail Class 08 is a diesel-electric shunting locomotive built by British Railways beginning in 1952, designed for low-speed yard and marshalling work such as assembling and moving freight wagons and passenger coaches around stations and depots rather than main-line hauling. Built in very large numbers, nearly a thousand examples, it became the standard British shunting locomotive for decades and remains, despite its age, still in use in the twenty first century at various depots and industrial sites, making it one of the longest-serving locomotive designs in British railway history.
