The BR Standard Class 4 2-6-4T is a class of 155 steam tank locomotives, one of the British Railways standard classes built during the 1950s, used mainly on commuter and outer suburban services and able to reach 75 mph. It was based on the ex-LMS Fairburn 2-6-4T, with design work at Brighton under Robert Riddles and a more curved tank and cab to fit the L1 loading gauge. Of the 155, 130 were built at Brighton, 15 at Derby Works and 10 at Doncaster Works between 1951 and 1956, the first being 80010 from Brighton in 1951. They worked the London, Tilbury and Southend line until electrification in 1962, the last nine were withdrawn on 9 July 1967, and 80002 was preserved on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.
