The Bombardier Challenger 850 is a super-midsize business jet that Bombardier Aerospace built from its CRJ200 regional airliner, a 50-seat design. The type was first manufactured in 1996 as the Challenger SE, or Special Edition, was known as the Challenger 800, and was rebranded the Challenger 850 in 2006. It carries 12 to 16 passengers in an executive interior, with a transcontinental range and a high-speed cruise of Mach 0.80 from two General Electric CF34 turbofan engines. Challenger 850 and CRJ Special Edition are marketing designations for any CL-600-2B19 aircraft that was delivered green and then completed with an interior approved by supplemental type certificate. Sources disagree on the end of production: the Wikipedia article and a 2017 overview give 2012 after 71 deliveries, while a 2022 overview gives 2017 and 74 aircraft of the Challenger SE, 800 and 850 together.
