The Boeing B-50 Superfortress is a retired American strategic bomber, a post-war revision of the B-29 Superfortress. It was fitted with more powerful Pratt and Whitney R-4360 Wasp Major radial engines, a stronger structure and a taller tail fin. It was the last piston-engined bomber Boeing built for the United States Air Force and was refined into the prototype B-54, Boeing final design of that kind. The first production B-50A made its maiden flight on 25 June 1947, with no prototypes needed because the engines and tail had already been tested. After Strategic Air Command service, B-50s served as KB-50 tankers and WB-50 weather aircraft until 1965.
