The Z1 was BMW's first Z series roadster, a limited production two seater designed by the BMW Technik division with a plastic body hung on a steel monocoque and doors that drop down into the sills rather than swing out. It was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1987, built in Munich from 1989 to 1991 and sold in exactly 8,000 examples, and it laid the ground for the Z3 that followed in 1995. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in one generation: the single generation (1989 to 1991).
