The Berliet Dauphine was a family car built by Berliet at its Vénissieux plant, on the south side of Lyon, from the summer of 1934 until 1939. The original cars had a 1,990 cubic centimetre four cylinder engine that put them in the 11CV tax band, and a 1,600 cubic centimetre 9CV version soon joined them. It was offered as a four door berline and a two door coach, with a roadster and a cabriolet as well until the sporting bodies were dropped in 1935. Its chassis used independent front suspension on a transverse leaf spring with rack and pinion steering. Fewer than 10,000 were sold, and it was the last passenger car Berliet made, as the firm turned to trucks and buses after the war.
