The Benetton B187 was a Formula One racing car designed by Rory Byrne and raced by the Benetton team in the 1987 Formula One World Championship, replacing the B186 of 1986. In 1987 Benetton effectively became the Ford works team, with exclusive use of the 120 degree turbocharged Ford TEC V6, internally the Cosworth GBA, rated at about 900 bhp. The B187 was the last turbo car in a line that began with the Toleman TG181, and it was replaced for 1988 by the B188 with the naturally aspirated Ford DFR V8. Thierry Boutsen and Teo Fabi drove it; Boutsen finished fifth in the season opener in Brazil and led the Mexican Grand Prix for 13 laps before retiring, the only laps ever led by the Ford turbo engine. Boutsen was eighth and Fabi ninth in the drivers' championship, and Benetton finished fifth in the constructors' championship with 28 points. In 1989 Jackie Stewart drove it as part of a show of racing cars.
