The AMC AMX-GT was a one-off concept car that American Motors Corporation built for the 1968 show circuit, a rear-wheel-drive grand touring coupe with two doors, no centre pillar and a truncated tail, styled under Dick Teague. AMC made it by shortening a four-seat Javelin to the 97 inch wheelbase of the production two-seat AMX, lowering the roof and cutting off the rear, then adding a fibreglass tail, side-mounted exhaust pipes, a ram-air hood and an integrated roof spoiler. It appeared in red at the New York show in April 1968 and was later repainted. Its side pipes and hood scoop reached 1969 and 1970 option lists, and its chopped tail shaped the Gremlin.
