In December 2025 Ford announced that it would stop making the F-150 Lightning because it had failed to produce it at a profit, saying it remained on track to build a thirty thousand dollar electric pickup by 2027. The Lightning had sold well at first, with a projected three year backlog at planned production rates. It had dual electric motors, four wheel drive and a crew cab body, and could power a home from its battery. The Lightning was a battery electric full size pickup that Ford sold as part of its fourteenth generation F-Series.
