In 2024 the i4 was in its third year as BMW's battery electric four door coupe, sold as the eDrive35, eDrive40, xDrive40 and M50, with the M50 the first battery electric car from BMW's motorsport division. It was based on the 4 Series Gran Coupe, built on the same assembly line in Munich as the combustion cars, and its battery pack was mounted low for a lower centre of gravity. The liftback body had the shape of a coupe and the practicality of a hatchback.
