The F40 1 Series continued in 2022 in its mid cycle form, a five door front wheel drive hatchback that was the third generation and the first with the UKL2 platform. It was sold alongside the F44 2 Series Gran Coupe sedan, which used the same underpinnings and had been launched in 2020, and the F40 remained the cheapest BMW to buy in most countries. It was in its fourth year on sale since the launch of September 2019.
