The 2021 Aviator was in its second model year since the reintroduction, a mid size three row luxury SUV and badge engineered variant of the sixth generation Ford Explorer, manufactured at Chicago Assembly. The 2018 Aviator prototype had marked the debut of an all new vehicle platform for Ford, designed for multiple powertrain layouts including rear wheel drive, all wheel drive and front wheel drive, and a plug in hybrid Grand Touring was available.
