In 2021 the G05 X5 was in its third year as BMW's mid size luxury crossover, offered with petrol, diesel and plug in hybrid powertrains, with the X5 M and X5 M Competition F95 performance models. It was built mainly at Spartanburg, and assembly operations also took place in Russia by Avtotor, along with India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. The facelift was due in March 2023 for the 2024 model year, two years later.
