2020 was the first full year of the F40 1 Series, which had been launched at the end of September 2019 as a five door only hatchback. It sold with petrol and diesel engines and the M135i xDrive, and was positioned as the entry level model in the BMW range. It was built at the Leipzig plant, as the F70 later was. It replaced the F20 which had ended production in July 2019, and was sold with the choice of front or all wheel drive.
