The ASX of 2018 was the ninth model year of the first generation. The Outlander Sport had been built in Mitsubishi's Illinois plant for North America between 2012 and 2015, and production continued in Japan for the global market. The ASX was positioned below the Outlander in Mitsubishi's crossover SUV line up. The ASX is short for Active Sports Crossover. The RVR nameplate is only used in Japan, South Korea and Canada, and the car is also sold as the Outlander Sport in several markets.
