The BMW M2 Competition was introduced at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show and replaced the standard M2 Coupe as a more powerful variant. Its production began first in July 2018, with deliveries in early 2019. The M2 of 2018 was the F87, in its third year of production, a rear wheel drive coupe from BMW's motorsport division, and the Competition replaced the standard car. The standard M2 coupe was dropped in favour of the Competition in 2018.
