Honda announced the fifth generation Odyssey for the world market on its website on 26 September 2013, and Japan began sales on 1 November 2013, some time after Honda had shown the Concept M at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show. The rear hinged side doors were changed to dual power sliding doors, and the new RC1 and RC2 models are available in seven seater or eight seater form. Honda's newly developed 2.4 liter i-VTEC Earth Dreams engine provides 175 PS, and in Japan this model took the place of the first generation Elysion.
