The Mini Roadster, the convertible version of the Coupe, was formally launched at the Detroit North American International Auto Show in January 2012, having first been shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009 as a concept. The roadster's soft top is either manually or electrically operated, depending on the market. In 2012 the Coupe and Roadster formed a pair of strict two seater models.
