The Fusion was succeeded in September 2012 by the B-Max, ending a single generation that had run since 2002 and been exported to more than fifty countries. It carried a four star NCAP crash safety rating throughout and was built at the Cologne Niehl assembly plant. The nameplate was by then also used on Ford's American mid size sedan, a different car. It was longer, wider and taller than the Fiesta, and had been marketed as an urban activity vehicle since its debut.
