In mid-2009 Land Rover in Australia widened the Defender range with cab-chassis, panel van and high-capacity pick-up versions of the 110 and 130, and said late in the year that the 90 4x4 would come back for sale from early 2010. By then the Defender was one of the oldest vehicles in production, using the 2.4-litre Ford diesel and six-speed gearbox introduced in 2007. Australia had been a market where Japanese four-wheel drives had long since taken over from the Land Rover.
