A 5.3 liter LH8 V8 engine producing 300 horsepower and 320 pound feet of torque was added in 2008 for the Alpha model, available solely with the four speed automatic transmission. The V8 version had lower fuel economy, estimated at 13 miles per gallon. The Hummer H3 of 2008 was otherwise a compact off road SUV built by General Motors in Shreveport and in Port Elizabeth. The 2008 H3 added a V8 option.
