The Edge debuted at the 2006 Detroit show, with production starting in January 2006 as a 2007 model, the first mid size crossover Ford marketed in North America. It took its name from a trim package of the Ranger and sat between the Escape and Explorer. It was available as the SE, which had cloth seats, single zone manual air conditioning and 17 inch wheels, the SEL, and the SEL Plus with leather trimmed seats, and shared its platform with the Fusion and the Lincoln MKX.
