In 2007 General Motors began to reveal the Blue Devil project that became the ZR1, with details released in April, and a worker at a Michigan shipping company posted pictures of a development mule in February. The year also saw the Ron Fellows ALMS GT1 Championship Edition of the Z06, built to mark the Corvette racing team driver's 2007 championship. The ZR1 name had been used on development cars in 1971 and again on the top variant of the C4 Corvette.
