The Z4 in 2007 was sold as the roadster and the coupe, with the M Roadster and M Coupe at the top of the range, built at the Spartanburg plant in South Carolina. The coupe had controversial styling and was nicknamed the clown shoe, and it was relatively rare, since the roadster outsold it by seven to one in its first thirteen months on the market. The coupe sold 12,819 3.0si cars and 4,275 M coupes in its life.
