For the 2006 model year production started on July 5, 2005 and concluded on June 30, 2006, with sales beginning in September 2005. The Overland trim level was new, as was an SRT8 trim level that went into production on November 5, 2005, and went on sale December 20, 2005. A new 3.0 liter CRD diesel V6 engine debuted for both the Limited and Overland trim levels in mid 2006. The WK was built at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit.
