For 2006 the Ranger received its final major exterior update, as the model line was planned for discontinuation in 2008, and the fender badging was redesigned for the first time since 1989, with a larger design. The Ranger Edge became the Ranger Sport, as Ford moved the Edge name to a mid size CUV. FX4 Off Road models received a body colored grille, and leather seats became optional on the FX4. The final major exterior update came as Ford planned a 2008 discontinuation that was later extended.
