The first generation LaCrosse debuted in late 2004 as a 2005 model, replacing the Century and Regal solely as a four door front drive sedan, and the nameplate was borrowed from a 2000 Buick concept of the same name. All models were manufactured at General Motors' Oshawa Assembly in Ontario. It was marketed in Canada as the Buick Allure. The 2005 LaCrosse was the first model year, a front drive sedan built at Oshawa, with a V6 engine, sold in Canada as the Allure.
