In 2004 a version of the 4G64 powerplant was offered first, while a 4G69 2.4 liter SOHC MIVEC four producing 163 PS and 220 newton meters, and the turbocharged 4G63T, appeared later in the range. The Outlander was a compact crossover SUV in its fourth year, sold in North America and built in Japan, with the Airtrek in Japan. The Airtrek name was coined from Air and Trek to express footloose, adventure filled motoring pleasure.
