The first X3 went on sale in 2004, built by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria. An open door indicator was added on the 2004 models, and all 2004 X3 cars had grey carpeting. BMW had offered and promised Bluetooth support in 2004, but in practice none of the cars that shipped from the factory actually had it installed, which was a small embarrassment for the new model in its first full year. The 2004 cars in the United States were the first X3s sold there, in 2.5i and 3.0i forms.
