The new third generation Ram would not debut in the 2500 or 3500 series until 2003. For the 2003 model year AAM axles replaced the Dana axles. Dodge announced a hybrid version of the Ram, dubbed the Contractor's Special, in 2003, but the schedule for delivery slipped as Dodge backed away from the vehicle. The third generation Ram heavy duty won Motor Trend's Truck of the Year in 2003. The Ram was a full size pickup truck built by Chrysler.
