The Chariot Grandis was finally superseded by the Mitsubishi Grandis on 14 May 2003, although production of the older vehicle continued until the following year for overseas markets. It was the last of three generations that had begun with the Chariot of February 1983 and ended a line of small MPVs sold under many names. The Chariot Grandis was named after the French grandiose. The Chariot moved from a ladder frame to monocoque construction, using the company's RISE safety body.
