The Carisma of 2001 was in its seventh year, a large family car that competed with the Ford Mondeo and sat between the Lancer and the Galant. In Japan the Carisma was sold at a specific retail chain called Car Plaza. It was built at NedCar in Born, the Netherlands, with inline four engines. The chassis was also used by Proton to develop the Proton Waja. The model name was derived from a combination of the English car and the Greek kharisma, meaning divine gift.
