For the 2001 model year several minor cosmetic changes were made to the Navigator. The full size luxury SUV continued with the 5.4 liter V8 engines and four speed automatic transmission, and was built at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan, where production was sourced from 1997 to 2009. It had a towing capacity of up to 7,700 pounds when launched. The first generation was a full size body on frame SUV, mechanically related to the Expedition and the 1997 F-Series.
