With sales slowing to a trickle and new side impact regulations looming, production for the Japanese domestic market finally ceased in 2000, ending the 3000GT after a decade over three series. The car was a front engine, all wheel or front wheel drive grand touring coupe, also sold in North America as the Dodge Stealth until 1996. The car was based on Mitsubishi's Sigma and Diamante and kept their transverse mounted 3 liter, 24 valve V6 engines and front wheel drive layout.
