The Honda Z was launched on October 9, 1998 at Honda Primo Japanese dealerships as the PA1. It shared its midship mounted engine placement and 4WD drivetrain with its Honda Acty sibling, and unlike the Acty it was a four seater passenger car which had to pass passenger car safety standards. A 656 cc E07Z three cylinder engine came naturally aspirated or turbocharged, always with a four speed automatic transmission.
