The 1997 to 2000 3000GTs are separated by pre or post facelift. Slower sales in the American sports car market led to the major facelift plans for 1997 being abandoned. The third series of the Mitsubishi 3000GT was the fourth model year of a front engine coupe built in Nagoya, sold in the United States only as the Mitsubishi, since the Dodge Stealth had ended in 1996. The car was based on Mitsubishi's Sigma and Diamante and kept their transverse mounted 3 liter, 24 valve V6 engines and front wheel drive layout.
