The Stratus gained Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list for 1997 as it had for 1996, alongside the Plymouth Breeze and Chrysler Cirrus. A Dodge branded Stratus participated in the North American Touring Car Championship, where it was one of the few professional teams in the short lived series, with the driver David Donohue winning the 1997 season championship with a Stratus. The 2.0 liter engine remained standard on the ES through 1997.
