For 1997 the trim range was revised to the short wheelbase SX, the long wheelbase LX and the LXi, with the base long wheelbase model becoming the LX and the previous LX renamed the SX. All wheel drive returned as an option, with front wheel drive vehicles receiving optional low speed traction control, which was standard on the LXi. The driver side sliding door became standard that year, and 1996 examples built without one are very rare.
