1997 BMW 3 Series (E46)

The E46 was introduced in November 1997, with a press release on 11 November, and the sedan went into series production in December 1997, 31 months after the board approved its styling in 1995. Chris Bangle led the design with DesignworksUSA working on the exterior, and the design patents were filed in Germany in July 1997. Customer deliveries had to wait for the following spring. Series production started that December.
